Symbiotic relationship of butterfly and flower

We all love butterflies, because they can be considered as one of the greatest beautiful creatures of nature. Flower, is another one! So I was thinking if there is any relationship between these two!

The butterflies are important for many types of flowers, because they take care of pollination. They have the same role as bees. In areas where butterflies disappeared, the pollination of flowers must be made manually. The butterflies benefit of flowers as their shelter or as a source of food, while for flowers, this relationship means that the reproduction substances and seeds are carried around, helping the perpetuation of the species.

Symbiotic relationship of lions

Although I have written the title of this article as "Symbiotic relationship of lion", but while researching about this subject, I came to know that the lions don’t actually have symbiotic relationships, as they don’t need anybody else to survive, they are the kings of the jungle after all! However, the lion depends on zebras and hyenas in some way. The Zebra is one of the main sources of food for the lion, so if there are not zebras in the area, the lion can hardly find something to eat. The symbiotic relationship with hyenas is given by the common hunting habitat. Lions like to migrate, and when they search for a new place to live, the presence of hyenas in a certain area is a sign for the lion that the new habitat is a good one.

Symbiotic relationship of barnacle and whale

The barnacle lives on the back and bellies of whales, benefiting of transportation and food. As the barnacle depends on the plankton to live, they use whales to be transported to the areas where it can be found. The whales benefit from this “collaboration”, as the barnacle cleans the whale, and it also filters the plankton that will be eaten by the whale.

Symbiotic relationship of bottlenose dolphins

The bottlenose dolphin has a relationship with sponges, but it can’t be considered as a symbiotic ones. Apparently, the bottlenose dolphin prefers to carry the sponges around the habitat, but as there is no logical explanation for this behavior, we can assume that this is only for playing. Moreover, the sponges don’t benefit too much from the ride, so we might assume that this is only a game for the smart bottlenose dolphin.

Symbiotic relationship of remora and shark

The symbiotic relationship between remoras and sharks is fruitful only from the remoras. The small fish “hangs” on the belly of the shark, eating the leftovers and benefiting of “free” transportation. However, there is a risk involved, as the sharks don’t have any problems in eating their unofficial “parasites”. One benefit of the shark is that it will always have a clean belly with a remora hanging of it, but this is not useful for the shark.

The Symbiotic Relationship of Giraffes

If you have ever seen videos or pictures of giraffes that are out in the wild, you may notice that a lot of them seem to have birds as companions. These birds are known as oxpeckers or tick birds. These birds and the giraffes have a kind of symbiotic relationship. The tick birds eat the ticks and mites that could get onto the giraffe. If these parasites are allowed to stay there, then the giraffe can become really sick. However, tick birds are able to take care of this job because they eat the ticks and mites that can be found on the giraffe's skin.
